Clubman 3D 2006
Heres my report on Clubman 3d, I decided to arrive Friday afternoon,
once I finally found the flying site I was welcomed by all manor of pilots
that I had heard of but never seen nor spoken too. One thing is that I
learnt a lot from all these different pilots flying in different ways
that I feel I may have forgotten a lot of what was said. So I arrived
and was on my own not knowing anyone but within a short time I was chatting
to all the pilots. Then Ade Law came over and we started chatting and
he had a good look over my Standard Raptor. Where he found the tail control
lever was binding with a hex bolt. And suggested I dremelled some of the
bolt away. Seen as I was in a field and I didn’t own a dremel he
suggest I speak to Nigel Crane who lent me his battery powered dremal
Many thanks although he was busy rebuilding a broken Heli. Fridays flying
went with no hitch’s.
Saturday was great got loads of flights in Colin my caller arrived and
he managed to snag a bargain X-cell. Eat plenty of Burgers and coffee.watched
loads of helis crash including Bob.J’s turbine (a real shame that
was) Went and flew my trusty shuttle and some guys where amazed what that
little ol heli could do although backwards inverted flight was a no go.
Late afternoon I decided I better get my Competition Heli out and Give
it a Fly nothing Fancy just my sets and My freestyle things that I can
do comfortably. Took it out again for “One More Flight” went
though my SETS and then had enough fuel to go though my Freestyle at the
end of my freestyle there’s an Autorotation landing so the helis
all lined up for the Auto coming down pretty fast and Colin says that’s
too fast slow down, Im like I know im trying at that point I have no control
the helis coming down flat but fast -5 ish BIG BANG Heli Landed Skid s
First Initial damage report Frames, Shafts, Skids, Servos, Servo Frame
and Engine crank case. Bugger so im now left with my old Rag around Heli
that really struggles with Tumbling loop. Oh well its too late in the
day to Start re-building. Straight out with the old Raptor for some warm
up flights. I had intended to stay for the night flying comp but by 10:30
id had enough and the rain was persistent so back to the Hotel for me.
Sunday so I get to the field all raring to go (the loo that is) the weather
spitting / light drizzle a couple of guy squeezed in a practice flight
one managed to crash not sure if that was his Comp heli or not. So after
lots of delays its decided that everyone will fly there freestyle and
then the top five would fly there SETS, so at this point im a little disappointed
as I’d spent most of my effort in learning my SETS and less on my
freestyle (remember I only had three and a half months to practise) I
must say that I was concentrating on myself that I didn’t really
see many of the flights cant wait till the DVD comes out. Its My turn
to fly im all started and walking out to the flight line Colin there by
my side carrying the heli there’s no turning back now so I get comfortable
give the heli a little stab of collective to settle my nerves and to test
everything. I get to my starting position and wait what appears to be
an age to get started I hear the words “Begin” and off I go
after spending time timing my freestyle we got it too be exactly 3minutes
but I rush due to nerves and I’ve got a whole minute left so I extend
my hovering and do some random stuff which I cant remember then I head
into the sky for the Auto but forget to do it inverted so it was a bit
pointless never mind its all over now. Congrats to all who entered and
those that placed high well done see you guys around I hope.
Now im Planing for next year.
